Shout out from Open Culture
Thanks to Open Culture for this swell shout-out:
The Best Place on the Web for Film Junkies
| Category: Film | |
Some of you may know GreenCine as a highbrow video-rental company, one that serves as an alternative to Netflix and Blockbuster. But the best thing about Greencine is its blog, maintained by David Hudson and updated several times a day. A thoughful and unpretentious collection of reviews, interviews, festivals and other worthwhile online film discussions, refreshingly free of snark or invasive opinionating. Think of it as a very, very smart aggregator. This particular cineaste makes it as her homepage.

GreenCine Live Blogs the Oscars (Updated!)
Greetings and salutations,
With the writer's strike now officially over, as we all breathed a big sigh of relief and joy, we
also celebrated the fact that the 80th Academy Awards® ceremony will go on in its usual splashy fashion.
And GreenCine will be there (virtually) next Sunday, February 24th, to cover it in a cheeky Live Blogging event. Thanks to the folks at Cover It Live, GreenCine will host an online commentary throughout the Academy Awards ceremony, moderated by GC editor Craig Phillips, and an army of film bloggers including Erin Donovan (Steady Diet of Film), Agnes Varnum (Doc It Out), Stacie Ponder (Final Girl), Vince Keenan, and numerous other witty cinephiles. Special guests include... you! And a host of other goofballs from all over the world along for the ride.
Update! We are pleased to announce that Karie Bible, of Los Angeles' Film Radar (which covers revival, repertory, and special film events and the venues which house them), will also be joining us for the live chat.
Where: Online at http://www.greencine.com/static/oscarliveblog.jsp (you can register there for an e-mail reminder)
When: Sunday, February 24. Virtual seating begins at 4:45pm PST/7:45pm EST
We take film seriously so we'll be taking the awards seriously - but only up to a point; if you
can't make snarky comments at the Oscars, when can you?

GreenCine's editors and writers have years of experience writing about film online, via our award-
winning, ever-popular film blog GreenCine Daily, with our oft-quoted primers and interviews, and in our numerous DVD reviews. Together, we've helped put together one of the premier sites for film lovers everywhere, and with our highly-regarded DVD rent-by-mail service, GreenCine.com has become a place for cinephiles to get their hands on an incredible array of films, new and old, international and American, all the while being part of a fabulous film community.
Our Live Blogging of the Oscars continues that tradition while adding the excitement and immediacy of a live event.
Our commentary. Your comments. Trivia questions. Polls, pictures and punditry. All this and it's
free. Jump in, jump out, jump back in again when you just can't believe Daniel Day Lewis actually
said *that.*
The Oscars are fun, but let's face it, they need friends around to add running commentary.
Consider us your virtual friends for the evening, tux and gown optional. We'll also be giving away an Oscar-nominated film on DVD as well as a free one month GreenCine membership, so tell your friends!
